Domestic X86 Processor Dhyana Starts Production: Just Ip Authorization.

The Chinese made Dhyana (Zen) x86 processor, which is made by chip maker Hygon, started production. It is worth noting that this chip is developed according to the AMD Zen micro architecture. AMD authorizes x86's IP to Chinese partners, and Dhyana is the result of cooperation.

According to the official statement, AMD did not sell the final chip design to Chinese partners, but allowed partners to design their own chips for the Chinese server market.

The Dhyana processor is very similar to the AMD EPYC processor. The Linux kernel developer points out that the two is only the manufacturer ID and the product serial number are different. In fact, the Linux maintainers even transferred the EPYC support code to the Dhyana processor and found that it could run successfully. This shows that the difference between the two processors is very small.

For decades, the x86 architecture has been controlled by Intel, AMD and VIA. In 2016, AMD announced the establishment of a joint venture in China to develop processors. AMD will get $293 million in cash, when AMD was in financial difficulties and had 6 consecutive quarterly operating losses.
